The Grassroots Challenge

Over 80% of Nigerians live in the rural areas. Ironically the rural areas remain most deficient of amenities such as good roads, good educations, good water supply, good health care system etc. This instigates persistent rural-urban drift which consequently generates a myriad of socio-economy problems for both rural and urban centers. For example, as a result of such rural-urban migration, rural areas are deprived of human resources, required in the agricultural sector, and thus we experience low level of productivity in this sector. How do you rate government effort at rural development and tackling the migration? What workable strategies may goverment make its presence more meaningfully felt at the grassroots level?
